The aim of 'simplygod for kids' is to show little people the love and truth of God from His word in an accessible way for them. The other aim is to encourage and equip parents to take responsibility for teaching their children about the love and truth of God.

How simplygod for kids works:

On most Sundays the children stay for the beginning of the service and get to hear a kids story with one lesson. After prayer, those who want to, leave to go to Sunday School.

Sunday School is open each Sunday during term. Depending on the ages of the children present, the children are divided up into three groups: kindy, pre-primary and year 1 are Quokkas. Years 2, 3 and 4 are Wallabies. Year 5 and 6 are Roos. (We have excellent creche facilities for the youngest ones!) Parents take turns to teach any one of these three classes, especially if their own children are in the class. There is a roster which is available for parents to volunteer.

At present we have about 11 families taking turns to teach Sunday School.

The lesson is updated weekly and flows out of the previous sermon which means that parents have already been taught the passage and have a week to prepare.

Parents can listen to the Sunday sermon on the passage that the children will be focusing on. Our sermons are HERE.

After the YouTube lesson, there are some questions for the children to discuss.

Like everything at simplygod, no one has to attend simplygod church to make use of these resources. They are free for anyone.

All questions and comments always most welcome.

STEP 1   parents PRAY then READ the following passage:

(Depending on the age of the children and the passage, feel free to read only a part of the passage or even one verse. But it is good for the children to see you reading from the Bible. Perhaps get one of the children to read it out loud again.)

STEP 2   watch the relevant talk with the children:

(Parents, do not be afraid to ignore STEP 2 and give your own talk. You are most welcome to 'plagiarise' the talk as much as you'd like to. Make sure you have an object/something visible to engage the children. The YouTube talk is aimed at a certain age and it may be more helpful to adjust the level if the children you're teaching are younger/older.)

STEP 3   parents discuss some of the following questions with the children

These questions will be updated weekly during term. Feel free to use some, all, or other questions - whatever is most helpful for the age of the children you are teaching. The main thing is that the children are engaged and free to say or ask anything.)

STEP 4   parents pray with the children

maybe ask different children to pray for just one of these things:

Thanks - for something amazing about God we learn in the passage.

Please - ask God to do whatever we learn about in the passage.

Sorry - ask God to forgive our sins because of what Jesus has done.

Others - ask the children to name people that we can pray for, and what we can pray for them about.

STEP 5   learn a verse (or line) from the passage

There are lots of fun ways to learn a verse. Make sure the verse is age appropriate in terms of difficulty etc.

STEP 6   wrap up...

Once the congregation begin singing the song after the sermon, the children are welcome to join us. If its a communion Sunday, its always good to have the children come down, sit with their parents so that they can see communion or, as parents decide, partake of communion with their parents. If you finish early and the adult service is still carrying on, enjoy an activity together, or ask the children, 'What did we learn today?' Or, whatever...

here endeth the lesson...
